The Platinum Rule
Tony Alessandra, Ph.D. and Michael J. O'Connor, Ph.D.
$13.95

The Platinum Rule provides a simple technique for increasing understanding in the workplace, a social setting, or anywhere else. The Platinum Rule gives easy benchmarks and tools to identify other people's personality style, their likes and dislikes, through vocal and visual clues. And, of course, it starts by helping the reader identify his or her own style with exactitude. The Platinum Rule reveals how to cope productively with styles other than the reader's own in any setting without changing the reader's identity, use individual differences to bring out the best in any groups or task force, sell or improve customer service by giving customers the information they are really looking for, and diffuse "moments of misery" when someone is just plain unhappy with you, your business or service.

Sales Leadership
The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It
Michael E. Gerber
$16.00

Michael Gerber's The E-Myth Revisited should be required listening for anyone thinking about starting a business or for those who have already taken that fateful step. The title refers to the author's belief that entrepreneurs--typically brimming with good but distracting ideas--make poor businesspeople. He establishes an incredibly organized and regimented plan, so that daily details are scripted, freeing the entrepreneur's mind to build the long-term success or failure of the business. You don't need an M.B.A. to understand or follow its directives; Gerber takes time to explain buzzwords and complex theories.

Lanchester Strategy: An Introduction
Nobuo Taoka, Jay Tabrizi (Translator)
$25.00

Dr. Ted Lewis Ph.D., author of The Friction-Free Economy published by Harper Business 1997.
Widely practiced in Japan, but understood by only a handful of business leaders in the U.S.A., the Lanchester Strategy is speeding around the globe because it defines how to be a winner in a global contest. If you want to understand the new economy, this book could be your most important book purchase of the decade.

From the Author
After publishing Sales Forecast in Competitive Markets, in November 1971, questions from readers on Lanchester Laws came pouring into my office. Many people inquired if there was any book that offered a simple explanation of these laws. This book attempts not only to respond to these requests from readers, but also to explain my ideas on how to apply these laws to daily marketing activities. Lanchester Laws are, in a word, about the science of competition. Originally stated as a way to calculate losses in military combat, they became the guiding principles in strategies of landing and securing bases in the Central Pacific during World War II. After WWII, these laws and principles became the basis of Operations Research (OR) and were applied to management and marketing strategies. During the war, as a junior high school student, I witnessed the terrific magnitude of laws of logistics being exercised by the United States as I watched my house reduced to ashes, in an instant, during a B29 bombing. The laws of logistics were nothing but Lanchester Laws themselves. Actually, the Lanchester Strategy as a marketing strategy, as long as it is based on quantification, follows the laws of logistics. However, it is not simply the law of the strong. Rather, these laws are utilized as the strategy of the weak. In that sense, Lanchester Laws seem to be presented as the logic of the strong. This assumption is clearly wrong. Through numerous example this fact is spelled out in this book.

I would like to express my deepest praises to Dr. Onoda for his hard work over so many years.

Principle Centered Leadership
Stephen R. Covey
$14.00

How do we as individuals and organizations survive and thrive amid tremendous change? Why are efforts to improve falling so short in real results despite the millions of dollars in time, capital, and human effort being spent on them? How do we unleash the creativity, talent, and energy within ourselves and others in the midst of pressure? Is it realistic to believe that balance among personal, family, and professional life is possible?

Stephen R. Covey demonstrates that the answer to these and other dilemmas is Principle-Centered Leadership, a long-term, inside-out approach to developing people and organizations. The key to dealing with the challenges that face us today is the recognition of a principle-centered core within both ourselves and our organizations. Dr. Covey offers insights and guidelines that can help you apply these principles both at work and at home -- leading not just to a new understanding of how to increase quality and productivity, but also to a new appreciation of the importance of building personal and professional relationships in order to enjoy a more balanced, more rewarding, more effective life.

Acres of Diamonds
Russell H. Conwell
$4.99

Considered by many to be one of the finest speeches ever written, Acres of Diamonds offers a multitude of lessons about the rewards of work, education, and finding the riches of life in one's own back yard.
In an era when many Americans would pack public halls to hear speeches given by the greatest citizens of their day, Russell Conwell read his world-famous lecture hundreds of times, and used the income he earned delivering it to found a small seminary to train Baptist ministers. That school soon grew into Temple University, one of the first universities to offer affordable education to working-class Americans: it stands today as the most visible example of Russell Conwell's legacy and vision.

There are a multitude of gems to mine from Russell Conwell's words, no matter what your walk of life. Acres of Diamonds remains a significant—and inspirational—lesson about where the true riches of life may be found.

The Millionaire Next Door
Thomas J. Stanley, William D. Danko
$14.95

The rich are different -- or are they?
This is the never-before-unearthed story about America's rich -- and how they got that way. According to authors Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko, most people have it all wrong about how you become wealthy in America. It is seldom inheritance or advanced degrees or even intelligence that builds fortunes in this country. Wealth in America is more often the result of hard work, diligent savings, and living below your means. The Millionaire Next Door will tell you the seven common denominators that show up again and again among those who have accumulated wealth.

You will learn, for instance, that many millionaires bargain shop for used cars, pay a tiny fraction of their wealth in income tax, raise children who are often unaware of their family's wealth until they are adults, and, above all, reject the big-spending lifestyles most of us associate with rich people. In fact, you will learn that the flashy millionaires glamorized by the media actually represent only a tiny minority of America's rich. Most of the truly wealthy in this country don't live in Beverly Hills or on Park Avenue -- they live next door.

Whether they are corporate professionals, budding entrepreneurs, or they own a home business, most people are looking to achieve more in less time, while earning enough money to live comfortably. This book reveals the proven techniques thousands of people have used to attain all of the money they wanted while living healthy, happy and balanced lives. Seven Habits Of Highly Effective People
Stephen R. Covey
$14.00

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change was a groundbreaker when it was first published in 1990, and it continues to be a business bestseller with more than 10 million copies sold. Stephen Covey, an internationally respected leadership authority, realizes that true success encompasses a balance of personal and professional effectiveness, so this book is a manual for performing better in both arenas. His anecdotes are as frequently from family situations as from business challenges.
Before you can adopt the seven habits, you'll need to accomplish what Covey calls a "paradigm shift"--a change in perception and interpretation of how the world works. Covey takes you through this change, which affects how you perceive and act regarding productivity, time management, positive thinking, developing your "proactive muscles" (acting with initiative rather than reacting), and much more.

This isn't a quick-tips-start-tomorrow kind of book. The concepts are sometimes intricate, and you'll want to study this book, not skim it. When you finish, you'll probably have Post-it notes or hand-written annotations in every chapter, and you'll feel like you've taken a powerful seminar by Covey. --Joan Price

Who Moved My Cheese?
Spencer, M.D. Johnson, Kenneth H. Blanchard
$19.95

Change can be a blessing or a curse, depending on your perspective. The message of Who Moved My Cheese? is that all can come to see it as a blessing, if they understand the nature of cheese and the role it plays in their lives. Who Moved My Cheese? is a parable that takes place in a maze. Four beings live in that maze: Sniff and Scurry are mice--nonanalytical and nonjudgmental, they just want cheese and are willing to do whatever it takes to get it. Hem and Haw are "littlepeople," mouse-size humans who have an entirely different relationship with cheese. It's not just sustenance to them; it's their self-image. Their lives and belief systems are built around the cheese they've found. Most of us reading the story will see the cheese as something related to our livelihoods--our jobs, our career paths, the industries we work in--although it can stand for anything, from health to relationships. The point of the story is that we have to be alert to changes in the cheese, and be prepared to go running off in search of new sources of cheese when the cheese we have runs out.
Dr. Johnson, coauthor of The One Minute Manager and many other books, presents this parable to business, church groups, schools, military organizations--anyplace where you find people who may fear or resist change. And although more analytical and skeptical readers may find the tale a little too simplistic, its beauty is that it sums up all natural history in just 94 pages: Things change. They always have changed and always will change. And while there's no single way to deal with change, the consequence of pretending change won't happen is always the same: The cheese runs out. --Lou Schuler

To support this almost counterintuitive proposition, Surowiecki explores problems involving cognition (we're all trying to iden?ify a correct answer), coordination (we need to synchronize our individual activities with others) and cooperation (we have to act together despite our self-interest).
